Gammera the Invincible

I am such a nerd for Godzilla and Gammera movies, and lucky for me they're always being shown on Comet tv.  📺  I just had the pleasure of watching Gammera the Invincible the other day (I love you, Gammera).  The middle of the film features this groovy song.  Feast your ears on this. Now!

(*My husband suspects that the American voice actor who dubbed the part of the little boy shown in the screenshot below is the same person who voiced Spritel in Speed Racer.  Watch the movie. You be the judge.)

Sunny Day Girl by Wayne Newton

I had the singular pleasure of seeing an honest to goodness Wayne Newton Las Vegas show in the early 80s.  And wow, what a spectacular treat.  His opening song was Comin' to America, by Neil Diamond.  As a surly Gen X teen, I tried to resist enjoying the show which was clearly meant for an older crowd and full of loungey songs like Danke Shoen, but you know... Wayne Newton is just so uniquely fancy and unironically amazing.  He won me over by the end.

Here's a link to a quick video I made, where I was putting some finishing touches on my painted 45.  https://youtu.be/Btm3loWBB5c

Painting this record brought back Vegas memories and gave me reminiscent joy.

Sunrise, Sunset...

It's no secret that I love colorful and dramatic sunrises and sunsets.  I take a lot of pictures of them, especially being somewhat elusive in my pacific northwest climate.  Each and every one us special to me.  Here's today.

Rach and Jay's Superstitious Rules for New Year's Eve/Day

1. Top off your larder.
2. Kiss at the stroke of midnight.
3. Your first footer (or Lucky Bird) of the year must be tall, dark, and handsome (blonde or red headed is bad luck). Lucky Bird must come inside bearing a coin, some bread, and some salt.  They have to knock and be invited in.
4. Nothing should leave the house on January 1st, not even garbage.
5. Eat black eyed peas on New Years Day.
6. Do not do laundry or bathe on New Years Day.
7. Make a loud noise and let the old year out through an open door at midnight on New Years Eve.
8. Have a baby on New Years Day, if possible.
9. Watch The Hudsucker Proxy on New Years Eve.

With a love so rare and true

My husband and I were having an intense and profound conversation about the consequences of substituting the word SHMOO for the words "blue", "new", and "you" in song titles...or really, you could try it with any word that has the oo sound.

My Aim is Shmoo
Peggy Shmoo
Behind Shmoo Eyes
Folsom Prison Shmoo
Shmoo Moon
Tangled Up in Shmoo
Runaround Shmoo

You know, like that.  Try it.  It's fun.

*I invite you to do an internet image search for The Shmoo, in case you don't remember what Shmoo is.
